New chairman: Mr. Nigel Louis Romano
The Caribbean Corporate Governance Institute (“the Institute”) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Nigel Louis Romano as the Chairman of its Board of Directors.
Mr. Romano takes over from Mr. Ronnie Bissessar who served as chairman from June 30, 2016 to December 31, 2019.
The Institute is a non-for-profit membership-based organisation whose principal objective is to promote corporate governance best practices across the region. It aspires to become the leading regional resource center for world-class director training and the professional development institute for governance in the Caribbean.
Members of the Institute represent the most senior and influential local and regional business leaders. In November 2013 the Institute co-authored the Trinidad and Tobago Corporate Governance Code in partnership with the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange.
Mr. Romano is a Banker and Chartered Accountant with extensive experience in public accounting and banking across the globe. He has a B.Sc. in Industrial Management and an M.Sc. in Accounting from the University of the West Indies and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Trinidad and Tobago. He also has an MBA from the Jack Welch Management Institute and is a certified Balanced Scorecard Professional.
Mr. Romano started his career with KPMG where he spent nine years in public accounting. He then joined Citibank in June 1988 as CFO in Trinidad & Tobago and has also worked with Citibank in Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore and the Philippines in finance and operations roles. Nigel is a member and director of the Caribbean Corporate Governance Institute and chairs the boards of the National Flour Mills, UWI Development and Endowment Fund and the Couva Medical and Multi-Training Facility Limited. He is currently a Partner, Business Coaching & Advisory Services at Moore Trinidad & Tobago.
Mr. Romano has been associated with the Caribbean Corporate Governance Institute since July 2012 when he became one of the founding members and also served an initial term as a director from July 25, 2012 to January 24, 2014. He re-joined the CCGI board on June 30, 2016 when he was elected by the membership at the 2016 Annual Meeting.
